2013 Celebrating Age Festival
The 2013 rendition of the ever-popular Bristol Celebrating Age Festival, saw a change of venue to Bristol City Hall from its usual home at the nearby Colston Hall. The main event of the 2-week festival saw favourable weather for the many thousands of older adults who visited the impressive building, to see and take part in, the various activities of the dozens of exhibitors who congregated for the annual festival.
One of the highlights of the day was a ‘question time’ session, which was held in the grand surroundings of the council debating chamber. The panel was chaired by veteran BBC presenter, Keith Warmington, and included a number of local luminaries who are active in older adult interests;
George Ferguson CBE ~ Mayor of Bristol
Alison Comley MBE ~ Strategic Director of Health & Social Care
Tony Bullimore ~ International yachtsman and retired businessman
Mohindra Chowdry ~ Retired businessman & community activist
Ashley Jones ~ Trustee - Senior Citizen Liaison Team Charity
The panel took questions from the crowd of hundreds, on questions ranging from digital inclusion for seniors to the potential loss of universal benefits for many pensioners.
SCLT trustee Ash Jones was a panel member for the session, he said, “The SCLT have supported the Celebrating Age Festival for 4-years and it is always a pleasure to take part in this very popular event”
“The ‘question time’ session was an opportunity for the crowd to express opinions on themes affecting the wider older adult community. For my part, I was able to use the stage to promote online safety issues and to remind the audience that the SCLT is here to offer support, advice and guidance through our website and via the award-winning Senior Siren magazine”
