Chief Executive Interviewed for Senior Siren Magazine

SCLT Volunteer Ash Jones of the Senior Citizen Liaison Team (SCLT) recently interviewed Mr Ian Moncrieff CBE, the Chief Executive of the National Hydrographic Office in Taunton, for a future edition of the award-winning Senior Siren safety magazine. The National Hydrographic Office is a part of the Ministry of Defence and is responsible for the production and distribution of maritime charts for the Royal Navy and also civilan mariners.

The Senior Siren is the mass communication tool of the Senior Citizen Liaison Team (SCLT) which provides a tailored, crime prevention and victim support service for the older adult population. The bi-monthly magazine is packed with crime-busting advice for older adults, as well as several lifestyle articles which has made the magazine a great success with its many thousands of senior readers.

Each edition features an interview article with an interesting or well-known individual, known as the Senior Spotlight. Previous alumni of this feature include; Sir Chris Bonnington, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Lord Tom King and Colonel John Blashford-Snell.

On this occasion the Senior Spotlight fell upon Ian Moncrieff, who has been at the helm of the world renowned National Hydrographic Office since 2011. Prior to his current appointment, Ian served as a Rear Admiral in the Royal Navy and enjoyed a fascinating career including a period as Military Commander of the  Falkland Islands, Captain of the Antarctic icebreaker HMS Endurance and Executive Officer of the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible.

Ash Jones said, “The Senior Spotlight is one of the most popular articles within the Senior Siren magazine and I am indebted to the great individuals who agree to share their life stories and views with me for the enjoyment of our readers. Admiral Moncrieff was very generous with his time and I’m sure his article will help us promote the message of senior safety to our increasing audience”

Today was also a day of minor celebration for the small, volunteer editorial team of the Senior Siren, as it was announced that the magazine has been shortlisted for the ‘Publication of the Year Award’ at the 2013 Public Sector Communication Awards. The overall national winner will be selected at a ceremony in Manchester in November.
