Senior Siren Arrives at the Royal Hospital Chelsea
There can be few institutions in the UK which can deservedly enjoy national, iconic status more than the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the 300 or so Chelsea Pensioners who proudly call it their home. Their striking, scarlet tunics and sparkling medals all remind the observer of the honour and sacrifices that these men and women all undertook in their respective decades of service in Her Majesty's Armed Forces.
SCLT Trustee Ash Jones visited the Royal Hospital in early April 2013 to interview one of the pensioners, Mr Brian Cumming MBE, for a future Senior Spotlight article, which will be published later in the year. He said, "Today was truly a highlight in my short career as an amateur journalist. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Brian and having the opportunity of interviewing him about his long and interesting army career. I learned much about life as an in-pensioner in the famous Royal Hospital from Brian, who was a charming host and fantastic ambassador for the 'men and women in scarlet'.
During his visit, Ash took the time to leave a copy of the current Senior Siren for the pensioners to enjoy - Look out for Brian in a forthcoming edition of the Senior Siren in 2013.
