SCLT Public Presentation Team Spread the Safety Message
Thursday 5th September 2014 saw SCLT volunteer Roger Ibrahim joining the regular meeting of the Bridgwater Senior Citizens Forum as their guest speaker for the morning. The popular community group for over 50's meets twice monthly at the Bridgwater Baptist Church, and enjoy a full range of social activities, including guest speakers on a variety of subjects, day trips to local amenities and social gatherings.
Roger, who is the Manager of the SCLT Minorities Outreach team in addition to his role as a guest speaker with the SCLT Public Presentation team, gave a 45-minute, fully facilitated multi-media presentation on the subject of the challenges of an aging population and senior safety - with a very strong emphasis on doorstep safety and avoiding deceptions, scams & cons which can frequently be targeted at the more vulnerable members of the senior community.
Following his well received presentation, Roger joined the member of the forum for refreshments and took the opportunity to answer questions about the Senior Citizen Liaison Team and offered tips and advice about staying safe in later life.
Commenting about his visit to Bridgwater, Roger said, "This 35-strong group is a great chance for seniors to join like-minded folks every other week for some quality social time, with the added entertainment of structured activities and a packed itinery of guest speakers".
"I have really enjoyed my visit and can tell that my presentation was thought provoking for many of the attendees by some the questions that I was asked afterwards. If folks only remember one thing from today, it will make them less likely to be a victim of deception crime - so my work here is done and it's off the the next town for me"
