SCLT Outreach Team Build a Bridge in North Somerset (UK)
Early February saw the Senior Community Link BME (Black, Minority & Ethnic) Group in Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset receiving a follow-up visit from SCLT Minorities Outreach Team Leader, Mr Roger Ibrahim, following a preliminary visit to the group earlier in the year.
Roger gave an informal presentation to the vibrant group, on the importance of reporting hate crimes as well as, what services can be expected from the police and other voluntary and statutory partners, who often work in close collaboration with the SCLT.
During the meeting, Roger had the opportunity to explore some of the fears which were held by the group, in respect to being an older adult member of the BME community in North Somerset. The presentation touched on how to report crime, what form a police investigation will usually take, and how such matters can lead to an appearance at court, or some other form of community resolution for the offender.
Following the main presentation, Roger held a number of 1-to-1 chats with attendess, which led to a number of referrals to other agencies for ongoing support and services.
