SCLT Public Presentation Team Visit Backwell in South West England

April 17th saw SCLT volunteer Roger Ibrahim visiting the Backwell Seniors Group which is situated in the North Somerset Area of South West England. The group, numbering 50+ members, meet regularly to enjoy guest speakers, light refreshments and to engage in stimulating conversation.

Following the event, Rog said, "What a great audience the crowd have been today. Lots of questions on senior safety and it was amazing to be giving a presentation on the challenges of an ageing population, when there was an actual centenarian in my audience"

"The gentleman in question was called Sydney and was remarkably celebrating his 101st birthday today. It was a truly fascinating thought, that when Sydney was born, the Great War had yet to begin and it had only been 11-years since the Wright brothers had made the first powered flight in an aircraft"

"It makes me reflect upon the importance of the wealth of knowledge and experience that our senior generation have to offer society, and how vital it is for us to ensure that people like Sydney are safe to enjoy their twilight years to the fullest extent"
