SCLT Public Presentation Team Hosted by Burnham-on-Sea Parkinsons Support Group
Monday 8th June 2015 has seen SCLT volunteer Matt Hawker visiting the monthly meeting of the Parkinsons Support Group in the seaside town of Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset.
The group have a drop-in meeting on the second Monday of each month at the Catholic Church in the town, and offer information, friendship and support to local people with Parkinson's, their families and carers. The group also benefit from occasional guest speakers on a range of subjects which may be of benefit to it's members and their relatives, friends and carers.
Following his presentation Matt commented, “There were 30+ attendees at the presentation this morning and the session went very well, with several members of the audience volunteering their own experiences of typical scams and deceptions which routinely are targeted at the vulnerable, senior community"
"In a very recent survey which was undertaken by Age UK, it was discovered that 53% of over 65-year olds in the UK have been targeted by some form of fraud, so our work in spreading the senior safety message has never been more important"
Every member of the group received a personal copy of the latest edition of the award-winning magazine of the Senior Citizen Liaison Team, ‘The Senior Siren’, which now is made available to more than 250,000 readers every-other month.
