Charity Stalwart Receives Volunteering Award

Exeter Golf Clubhouse was the venue for the recent South West Region Special Constabulary and Police Support Volunteer Awards for 2015. The event was a prestigious gathering of elite volunteers from accross the South West of the United Kingdom, who all came together to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of their community.

One of the attendees was Senior Citizen Liaison Team (SCLT) volunteer, Roger Ibrahim, who received the accolade as Police Support Volunteer for Avon and Somerset Constabulary*. He has been a dedicated member of the small charity since 2012, when he joined the team to lead their Senior Minority Outreach project. Since this time, Roger has become one of the most popular speakers with the SCLT Public Presentaton Team and has seen the Senior Minority Outreach Team become a marked success, which has received a number of local, regional and national awards.

Roger, who is now a trustee of the SCLT charity, devotes a considerable amount of his ever-precious spare time to the senior safety work of the SCLT. He travels hundreds of miles around the country, giving dozens of senior safety presentations to literally thousands of vulnerable senior citizens.

Fellow SCLT volunteer Ashley Jones is Chair of the Trustee team and nominated Roger for this award, said, “ Roger is the sort of person that every charity dreams of recruiting as a volunteer. He has boundless energy and is always ready to take on a task, even at short notice to help deliver the objectives of our team. He routinely sacrifices many of his rare days-off to deliver senior safety presentations to groups who benefit enormously from his work"

"His work on the Minority Outreach Team is ground-breaking and very much appreciated by the communities he serves. Many of which have often been marginalised from mainstream statutory or voluntary agencies due to some issue such as language or culture. Roger has become adept at overcoming these issues and has turned his willingness to help others into a great strength"

"He is extremely devoted to the task of helping those less fortunate or in critical need and we are all delighted that he has been selected for this wonderful accolade. He is a very deserving person and serves a roll-model for all volunteers and professionals alike. We are honoured to have him as a part of our charity and we all look forward to working with him for many successful years to come"

* The Senior Citizen Liaison Team is an independent charity which works in alliance with Avon & Somerset Constabulary, hence Roger's nomination for the PSV of the Year Award.
