SCLT Represented at Regional Remembrance Service
Wednesday 14th June 2017, has seen SCLT volunteer Ashley Jones representing the Senior Citizen Liaison Team Charity at the annual 'We Will Remember Them' remembrance service at the Memorial Woodlands Burial Grounds in Alveston, South Gloucestershire.
The annual service commemorates the sacrifices made by the men and women of the South West region when serving in the armed forces since the year 2000. The event, which was attended by dozens of veterans, visitors and local dignitaries, included a service in the chapel at the beautiful Memorial Woodlands location. The service, which was conducted by a serving member of the Royal Army Chaplains Department, also included a reading by Mrs Peaches Golding OBE, the Lord Lieutenant of Bristol.
The attendees then processed to the memorial monument in the grounds of the estate, where representatives of the armed forces, local charities and schools, laid wreaths of poppies as an act of remembrance, prior to the playing of the Last Post by a bugler of the Rifles Regiment.
SCLT volunteer Ash Jones laid a wreath on behalf of the SCLT Charity, he commented;
"It is a great honour to represent the SCLT Charity as we show our respects for the sacrifices made by the men and women who have gone before us and given so much, so that we may live in a free and democratic society. This has been brought into sharp focus for many citizens by the recent security incidents around the country. As a military veteran myself I appreciate the significance of events like these and am heartened to see so many young people and children joining in this act of remembrance"
"The Memorial Woodlands organise a superb event every year and it is a special day in the calendar for all concerned"
