SCLT Public Presentation Team Visit Malpas Alzheimers Group
Tuesday 25th July, has seen SCLT volunteer presenter Ash Jones visiting the regular meeting of Malpas Alzheimers Support Group in Malpas Court near Newport to meet with the group users and their carers and to raise awareness of financial safeguarding against the many scams and frauds that are targeted at elder citizens on a daily basis.
There are estimated to be more than 2000 people living in Newport with dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society day care centre and associated support services aim to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation and offer a variety of activities to promote physical and mental well-being. From reminiscence and music sessions, to gentle exercises and arts and crafts; the day centre offers a wide range of activities for people with dementia.
SCLT volunteer Ash Jones facilitated the safety session, he commented “Being diagnosed with dementia can be a daunting and overwhelming experience, but this groups like these offer a calm, social environment in which people with dementia can take part in activities they enjoy and meet new people. It has been lovely to meet everyone and to have the opportunity to help keep people safe from the frauds which they can be targeted by”
