SCLT Public Presentation Team Visit West Huntspill Day Centre
Thursday 7th December 2017, has seen SCLT crime prevention volunteer Matt Hawker joining the ladies and gents of the West Huntspill Day Centre for a fully facilitated session on senior safety, with a particular focus upon avoiding financial harm from the many scams and frauds that we all encounter in our daily lives.
The group meet every week at The Balliol Hall (Church Rd, West Huntspill, Highbridge, TA9 3RW) between 10:30am – 2:30pm, where the group enjoy interesting guest speakers and engaging conversation over a warm drink and a few biscuits. The group also enjoy day trips to interesting locations and the camaraderie that comes from being a member of a locally-focused community group.
During the session, which is fully illustrated with PowerPoint slides and contains original video content, Matt discussed the pitfalls of engaging with unsolicited callers over the telephone and on the doorstep and gave advice around dealing with scam-mail and fraudulent e-mails, which often purport to originate from a trusted government agency to lull the prospective victim into a sense of complacency.
At the end of his visit, Matt commented, “It is always a pleasure to visit such a warm and welcoming community group, such as the West Huntspill Day Centre and its great membership. It is a privilege to meet such interesting elders, who all have led such fascinating lives. I sincerely the audience will have taken away some of our safety tips today, or will remember some of my safety presentation as they read the Senior Siren magazines that we regularly publish to keep the subject of senior safety uppermost in everyone’s minds”
