Public Presentation Team Visit – Malpas Alzheimers Society Group.

 

Tuesday 7th May, has seen SCLT volunteer presenter Jon Williams visiting the regular meeting of Malpas Alzheimers Support Group in Malpas Court near Newport to meet with the group users and their carers and to raise awareness of financial safeguarding against the many scams and frauds that are targeted at elder citizens on a daily basis.

 

On today's visit to the group, Jon delivered the highly informatibe 'Scams & Swindles' presentation the the large group and their carers from accross the Newport area..

 

There are estimated to be more than 2000 people living in Newport with dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society day care centre and associated support services aim to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation and offer a variety of activities to promote physical and mental well-being. From reminiscence and music sessions, to gentle exercises and arts and crafts; the day centre offers a wide range of activities for people with dementia.

 

SCLT volunteer Jon facilitated the safety session, he commented  “Being diagnosed with dementia can be a daunting and overwhelming experience, but this groups like these offer a calm, social environment in which people with dementia can take part in activities they enjoy and meet new people. It has been lovely to meet everyone and to have the opportunity to provide them with protective advice with our Scams & Swindles presentation. Everyone loved the session and left with smiles, which made my day!”

 

Every member of the audience rceived a personal copy of the award-winning Senior Siren magazine, which is packed with advice and tips on staying safe into later life
