SCLT Public Presentation Team Join 'Not So Young Club'

Wednesday 31st October 2018 has seen SCLT volunteer Ash Jones joining the monthly meeting of the Downend ‘Not So Young Club’ at St Augustine’s Catholic Church, Boscombe Crescent in Bristol to give a highly appropriate Halloween enrichment presentation on Dracula: The Man Behind The Myth, to the 100 members of the very popular community group.

The `Not-so-Young group is for retired people to meet and socialise. They host a monthly meeting, where attendees can listen to a range of entertaining speakers, exchange views, generally support one another, and on occasions raise money for charity. There are group lunches about twice a year and regular outings and even group holidays are arranged throughout the course of the year.

Potential members are encouraged to make contact the Parish Office, however, the club is extremely popular, resulting in a waiting list for members. Others wishing to help could offer lifts, or pass on news of the club to potential members. The group meet in the Parish Hall at 10.00 a.m. on the last Wednesday of the month.

At the conclusion of the highly interactive and engaging presentation on the blood-thirsty Transylvanian leader, SCLT veteran presenter Ash Jones commented, “It has been a real privilege to be invited to join the members of the Not So Young Club on this Halloween afternoon to share with them the terrifying story of the life and times of Vlad Dracul III, believed by most to be the man that Bram Stoker based his fictional anti-hero, Count Dracula of Transylvania

I Have also passed on advice and support about staying safe and avoiding scams in later life. I hope that the advice I have given today, will make the audience think about their own circumstances and start to form a personal safety plan for the day when the doorbell rings or the scam e-mail or letter is targeted at them”

Every member of the audience received a personal copy of the award-winning Senior Siren magazine – the quarterly publication of the Senior Citizen Liaison Team, which offers crime prevention advice and a host of other lifestyle information for seniors and those who support elder family members.
