SCLT Charity Donation Making a Difference to the Lonely & Isolated
In December 2018, SCLT senior volunteer Jon Williams handed over a financial donation to Mr Bryan Harris, proprietor of the Coffee Pot Cafe in Abergavenny in the Welsh county of Gwent, to assist in the purchase of gifts for lonely and isolated members of the elderly community in the local area over the festive period.
Friday 21st December 2018, once again saw SCLT volunteer Jon, reunited with Bryan and members of his staff from the Cafe, as they went about their task of bringing joy and delight to the many elder members of the community, who had been selected to receive a gift hamper for Christmas.
Jon actually drove the Coffee Pot team around the town, as they made their unexpected calls upon the shocked recipients of the lovely presents.
The gift hampers, which had all been specially made up by the staff of the Coffee Pot Cafe, contained toiletries, sweet treats and even a little bottle of fizz to help make the difference to someone who may find themseleves alone on Christmas Day and over the festive period.
Following the distribution of the gift hampers, SCLT volunteer Jon Williams commented,
"As a charity, we have focused upon the delivery of safety education on the subject of frauds and scams for many years and have even expanded our services to include a variety of enrichment lectures recently, however, this year we have been experimenting with funding activities that help alleviate the underlying causes of victimsiation of fraud.
In this instance, loneliness & isolation are a big contributary factor, so we have branched out to help other community groups to undertake great work in this field. Hopefully, we will be able to expand this area of our work in 2019 and beyond"
