SCLT Public Presentation Team Visit – Support Elder Safety Exposition in Burnham-on-Sea

Friday 14th June 2019 has seen SCLT volunteer Ash Jones attending the inaugral Elder Saftery Exposition at the Community Centre in the Somerset town of Burnham-on-Sea in celebration of United Nations World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (15th June 2019)

The was organised by officers from the Sedgemoor Neighbourhood Policing Team of Avon and Somerset Constabulary, who arranged for representatives of numerous organisations which seek to safeguard the older adult community.

The event attracted dozens of senior visitors throughout the day, who enjoyed chatting to members of the Police, the Fire & Rescue Service, The Institute of Advanced Motorists, Sedgemoor Local Authority, Village Agents Team, Wiltshire Farm Foods and many other groups.

The Senior Citizen Liaisin Team held a Senior Safety Surgery to offer advice and support to the visiting senior citizens, who sought advice on a variety of personal protection topics.

At the conclusion of the surgery, Ash commented, “This has been a great event and I have had many patients come to my safety surgery for advice and crime prevention tips. I have been able to refer some of the callers to other agencies and also been able to offer tips on how to avoid financial exploitation in its many, insidious forms.”
