Bristol Meals on Wheels Awarded Top Regional Honour
In April 2013, the Senior Star Award was created by the Management Board of the Senior Citizen Liaison Team (SCLT) to recognise the efforts of citizens who go above and beyond in the service of the older adult community. The deeds recognised can vary from sustained dedication to projects which benefit the elder population, or, as in the case of the inaugural recipient, a single act of self-sacrifice or outstanding bravery.
The nominees for the award are assessed by a panel of trustees, lay-volunteers and former winners, to ensure that only the most deserving of candidates receive recognition. In Summer 2014, the Trustee Board of the Senior Citizen Liaison Team Charity were delighted to approve the bestowal of the SCLT Senior Star Award upon the dedicated team at Bristol Meals on Wheels, who have been a valued partner of the SCLT Charity for a number of years and have displayed exceptional dedication and support for the older adult community of Bristol.
The Bristol Meals on Wheels team have been responsible for the delivery of Senior Siren magazines to tens of thousands of vulnerable older adults each time that the award-winning magazine is published and distributed by the charity. All the delivery staff have volunteered to undertake the task of hand delivering a magazine to each and every service user as they go about their duties of bringing the daily meals to users of the meals on wheels service.
SCLT Projects Director and Charity Trustee, Mr. Mike Wedlock, visited the Meals on Wheels Team at their Bristol Depot to present the SCLT Senior Star Award trophy to the very excited team, he said; "It gives me tremendous pleasure to recognise the magnificent efforts made by the Bristol Meals on Wheels team in the delivery of these safety enhancing magazines to those who need the safety advice the most. I sincerely hope that this tale of volunteering endeavor will inspire others to reach out and help other older adults who are in need"
